Training Champions

Junior McInnes’ background in elite combat sports, where endurance, timing, and composure decide everything’has made him a highly sought-after trainer for top-level athletes across boxing, kickboxing, and karate. Known for his sharp eye and demanding standards, Junior has held pads for some of the best fighters in the world, including Tyson Fury. What sets Junior apart is his pad-holding system, built around real fight reactions, not rehearsed routines.

A lot of pad holders simply lift the pads and call combinations nonstop. Junior believes that’s only a small part of true pad work. Taught by his father, Kancho Robert McInnes,a respected karate teacher and boxing trainer,Junior learned that fighters shouldn’t always be “told” what to throw. Instead, they should see the target and react instantly. In Junior’s sessions, the pads create triggers through sight, movement, and openings, just like a fight. The fighter learns to recognize gaps, fire without hesitation, and stay switched on under pressure.

This approach lets the trainer measure real improvement, not just power or volume, but the split-second reaction time between seeing the shot and landing it.

The result is pad work that feels competitive, fast, and alive, more like a live exchange than a grind. Alongside his pad system, Junior also uses old-school conditioning methods passed down from his father, training that builds not only cardio, but toughness, focus, and heart. As Kancho Robert McInnes has always taught: the brain and spirit must be trained just as hard as technique. Junior and his father are also owners of ISS Boxing Gym—one of the most respected and well-known boxing gyms in Southeast Asia—where fighters come to sharpen skills, build endurance, and train with true “Old School” intensity.
