The 100-man kumite (Japanese: hyakunin kumite) is an extreme test of physical and mental endurance in karate.

The 100-man kumite consists of 100 rounds of kumite, each between one-and-a-half and two minutes in length. Normally, the karate practitioner undergoing the test will have to face similarly or higher-ranked opponents.

Each opponent faced will be fresh and not fatigued or injured. Each of the rounds are done under test conditions, where either of the fighters are allowed to deliver knock out blows. To complete the 100 man Kumite the fighter must survive the the grueling 100 rounds with out being knocked out .

The fights are full contact with no protective equipment allowed and a fighter may not show signs of wanting to give up at any part of the Kumite regardless of pain and injury.

NEVER GIVE UP

In Shorin Kempo I was taught to never Give up!!!! and when you backs to the wall then adapt to over come…. its this philosophy and train of thought that got me through the 100 man kumite and to complete 110 fights in on day.
I must say the 28th day of May 2018 was the longest and most demanding  day of my life.

I have fought in many tournament in Japan and Boxed in Thailand against many great fighters but nothing comes close to the sacrifice and commitment needed to complete and accomplish the 110 man kumite.

The pain and injuries is beyond any description, my legs were kick at least 1000 times , my ribs were broken, knuckles raw, the pain excruciating beyond any training or conditioning or fight i have ever had, yet i new i must not give up…after the 70th fight i cannot remember much as i was fighting on instinct. I could only hear my father voice and i hung on to that to get me through.

After the 100 th fight i was in so much pain i couldn’t feel my legs and my ribs felt like i had been stabbed with a knife over and over again…. then suddenly i heard the old Uchideshi scream out a maori Haka , all of a sudden i felt like a ghost came inside of me , the pain was gone and i knew i was going to make it… My father was there for me , the Uchi deshi was there screaming the haka , it was an amazing feeling if triumph  that will never be matched in my life time again.

Thank you Soshi Sugihara for believing in me,thank you shihan Matt Charles for all your Help and Peter Aerts , Pedro Rizzo, Shihan Itchicawa,Shihan Minami , Naito ,Fuckuchi all the guys from Thailand Sempai Mutt and Yodsanan for pushing me , and thank you Kancho Ademir Da Costa  for all your Advice, also Shihan Nino .
